What type of wood is throughout the home? Why was it chosen to accent several areas?

Circular Sawn Pine was used throughout the home. The floors are Old Growth Distressed Pine. The wood was selected for the ability to stain in the brown tone finish we were looking to achieve without underlying red tones. It was also a more economical way to attain the feel of reclaimed wood without the associated cost.

Tell us about the design process.

We worked with the client to create a timeless old Tahoe aesthetic that was not trendy but followed the principles of rustic design.  From design conceptualization, furniture and lighting procurement through project management, we oversaw the entire design process from start to finish.

What inspired the design and color palette?

Our goal was to marry moody nooks and small spaces of the home with bright rooms in order to provide warmth to spaces and create a cozy atmosphere.

How did your team decide on texture?

We incorporated natural materials, including reclaimed wood and stone along with furnishings with durable materials to give homage to the natural mountain setting and harsh climate.  The wallpapers that we used incorporated natural elements as well.

Why was bringing the outside in important?
I don’t know that I would say on this project we brought the outside in, but we did provide expansive windows and doors that back to a fairway that allows the light to stream into the home and ties the natural surroundings with the natural decor.

What specific feeling did you want to evoke throughout the home?
The overall feel we looked to evoke through the home was a moody, warm atmosphere that is centered on a modern but timeless feel.

Is there anything else you would like to share?
The use of texture through finish materials, took what could have been another mountain modern Tahoe home and turned it into a timeless, warm mountain home with a rustic modern vibe. It makes you want to curl up in one of the many bench seats on a cold winter day with a mug of cocoa and a good book.
